Our New Home in Aarhus

We are in Aarhus!  We just came home from eating with the Aarhus Bishop's family, the Slottved's.  We attended the Aarhus Ward this past Sunday and had a wonderful time meeting new members.  There were also quite a number of investigators which our four elders and two sisters had in attendance.  Our "Gospel Essentials" class had over 20 in attendance, counting four missionaries.

We have been very busy running down details for just living here such as our parking permit (which turned into a five-day ordeal), getting internet to our apartment, a cell phone for Bev which is still not working, (the mission provides one for me, but we are waiting for the right SIM card so I can use my iPhone), plus buying supplies and food.  This is a real adventure! Many Danes speak English, though some quite limited, but most all directions, signs, and phone messages are in Danish.  Bev is buying food, but slow at translating what is in the package or on the directions!  A few surprises!

As I mentioned, tonight we ate with the Bishop's family to get acquainted.  Last night we ate with a convert of a few years - a young woman named Maria who invited all of the missionaries to eat a traditional Danish Christmas dinner.  This included a special pork roast (flæskesvær) with the rhine cooked in such a way as to make it crisp.  This is quite a treat if you like crisp pork rhine!  Friday we ate at another sister's home with the sister missionaries.  This sister (Kirsten) had invited us the first night we were here, before we had even unloaded.  We declined that offer and she set it up for later.  So far, everyone is very social and seem glad to have us here!  It has been about five months since the last senior couple was in Aarhus.

On the 21st of August we celebrated our 41st wedding anniversary by walking through the down-town part of Aarhus.  (Pronounced Or-hoose).  We then ended up in a large store with a restaurant over-looking the port.  Bev tried a plate of traditional Danish frikadelle and I played it safe with a steak.

Tomorrow we will be meeting with the senior missionaries from Randers to get oriented a bit concerning our YSA (SUV) group here in Aarhus.  We will have our first activity tomorrow evening at the church building which is where we meet.  We will go from there!
